Balderton, Barnby and Coddington group of churches launches snowdrop campaign to spread messages of hope

A volunteer-led campaign was launched at a Balderton church this week — and they are calling on the community to get invovled.

The BBC Group of Churches, made up of St Giles’ Church, Balderton, All Saints’ Church, Barnby in the Willows, and Parish Church of All Saints in Coddington, launched its plant a snowdrop campaign to serve as a lasting symbol of hope.

On Monday, The Reverend Louise Holliday was joined by volunteers Dilys Carby and Kath Hirst to launch the campaign.

Rev Holliday said the planting reflected on a new lease of life in light of a difficult year because of the coronavirus pandemic.

“This year has been very difficult for many folk in our communities and we very much hope that this snowdrop campaign will form a carpet of hope which will serve as a reminder of the promise of new life year after year,” she said.

“Christian hope is rooted in a relationship with Jesus Christ, who draws us together to play our part by sharing our faith and living out the hope that we have in him.”

The planting is open to all and Rev Holliday encouraged residents to plant a snowdrop in the designated areas of the churchyards of any one of the three BBC churches.

School children are also being encouraged to send in their messages.

They can get involved online by posting artwork of hope on the ChurchinBalderton Facebook group.

Alternatively, people can send their submissions by email to stgilesbalderton@gmail.com or post them in to the vicarage on Main Street, Balderton.

Residents were also encouraged to get involved by decorating their windows with images and messages with the aim of lighting up three streets with signs of hope.
