Snowdrop Corner present cheque to Nottinghamshire County Council chairman's charity appeal for When You Wish Upon a Star

Retired RAF Police in Newark have supported the chairman of Nottinghamshire County Council’s charity appeal.

Snowdrop Corner, a group of veterans who meet weekly at The Harbourmaster, raised more than £400 towards Mike Quigley’s collection for the When You Wish Upon A Star charity during his term as the authority’s chairman.

Chris Gangel, of Snowdrop Corner, said: “The chairman was trying to raise the money all by himself, so we decided to support him.”

Through a series of raffles held at The Harbourmaster the group of veterans raised £481.10.

Chris added: “We raffled prizes and then with the money from those prizes we bought some more to raffle.

“We surpassed what we though we were going to get, and our cheque carried the chairman over the target.

“So many charities are desperate at the moment, as people are normally very generous but now they have to watch their pennies. Our lot were brilliant and I can’t thank them enough.”

Snowdrop Corner presented Mike Quigley and a representative for the charity, Alexa Wigfield, with the cheque on Friday.

When You Wish Upon A Star grants wishes for children living with life-threatening illnesses. It also organises days out and treats for the children it supports.
