Southwell City FC's charity support

Southwell City is supporting Mind for the new season.

A football club is giving its support to a mental health charity for the upcoming season.

Southwell City FC will have the Mind charity’s logo on the back of their shirts to show their support for its work.

First team manager Jonny Upton said: "For the last few years we have supported breast cancer on our shirts but this time around we have chosen something a bit more topical and relevant to men.

"It is in the national news at the moment regarding suicide as the biggest killer of men so we were keen to get on board and raise awareness.

"We spoke to Mind and they were really enthused and encouraged that a local team, even at our level, were wanting to have the Mind logo on our shirts."

Two home games will also see all proceeds from the bar and tickets go to Mind.

Mr Upton said: "It isn’t necessarily the money we are raising for them but more about the awareness and exposing the work they do for a good cause.

"We have 36 teams through to our under fives and, although it is just the senior first team that will have it on the shirt, it helps to spread awareness through everyone involved with the club and elsewhere.

"The players will each pay £5 fees during the two games we are fundraising to raise as much as possible."

Mind provides advice and support for anyone experiencing a mental health problem.

It campaigns to improve services, raise awareness, and promote understanding.

It is the English Football League’s official charity partner for the 2018-19 season.

All 72 clubs and community trusts will work to promote Mind’s message and services and, like Southwell City FC, have the Mind logo on the back of their shirts.
