Races at Southwell racecourse have been called off today due to the heat.

Southwell Racecourse has confirmed that today's meeting have been cancelled.

An earlier statement on the Racecourse's Twitter feed stated: "In the interests of equine welfare and wellbeing, we have made a precautionary decision to move our races earlier given the weather forecast. First race now 11.25am, last race 2.30pm and gates open from 9.55am."

But it has now been announced that the races today were abandoned due to extreme temperatures following an inquiry by the British Horseracing Authority.
