Sporty pupils race ahead of the field
Pupils at Lowe’s Wong Junior School, Southwell, won the Newark and Sherwood District Indoor Athletics Competition.
Twelve children, aged nine to 11, took part in the competition at the Minster School.
They competed against pupils from eight other schools in activities including relay races, hop, skip and a jump, long jump, throwing foam javelins, and high jump.
Lowe’s Wong’s PE co-ordinator, Mr John Radford, said: “They did an excellent job. Everyone loved taking part so it was a great event.
“All the teams that took part were very sporting and everyone applauded everyone else’s achievements.”
Mr Radford said the children trained for about five weeks.
He said: “They were keen to do very well and want to achieve the best they can.”
Each pupil received a medal and Lowe’s Wong was presented with the winner’s shield.
Lowe’s Wong will go on to the county finals, at the Harvey Haddon Sports Centre, Nottingham, on April 1.
Other schools taking part were: Barnby Road Primary School, Newark; Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Primary School, Newark; Gunthorpe Primary School, Muskham Primary School, Forest View Junior School, Ollerton; John Blow Primary School, Collingham; and King Edwin Primary School, Edwinstowe.
