A hairdresser has written a second children’s book inspired by her pet dalmatian.

Mrs Lorna Parkin, of Long Meadow, Farnsfield, has released Dotty’s Walks, a follow-up to Dotty The Spotty Dog.

The books were inspired by her dog, 12-year-old Poppy, and were illustrated by fellow dalmatian owner and fine arts graduate Mr Ross Williams, of Nottingham Road, Southwell.

Like the first book, it was printed by Unwin Print, of Farnsfield, which means it was written, illustrated and printed within a three-mile radius.

Mrs Parkin said she liked to fit her book writing around her work as a hairdresser.

“I enjoyed writing it,” she said.

“My son is an English teacher so he makes sure it is all correct.

“It is good when I read it to a child and they think it’s brilliant.”

'Some of the things they do are quite amazing'

Mrs Parkin visited schools with Poppy after the release of her first book and she said she may do the same with her latest.

She said: “Writing books about dalmatians is something I have always wanted to do, just because some of the things they do are quite amazing.

“The first book was about her being a puppy and going to the vets.

“This one is about the walks Poppy goes on and there are spots at the bottom of each page for children to count.”

Mrs Parkin said the book was suitable for parents and grandparents to read to children and was aimed at children aged two to five.

The book, priced £6.95, is available at Woodlanders in Southwell, The Pantry at Hexgreave, Unwin Print, Farnsfield, and The Bookcase, Lowdham.
