Residents encouraged to get involved as Newark and Sherwood District Council join The Great British Spring Clean
Residents have been encouraged to become litter heroes, as part of the nation’s biggest mass-action environmental campaign.
The Great British Spring Clean has returned for another year, and Newark and Sherwood District Council are to take part in the campaign which runs until Sunday, April 6.
Residents are encouraged to get involved and help with litter-picking — which can help make an immediate and visible difference to their communities.
Matthew Finch, director of communities and environment at Newark and Sherwood District Council, said: “The Great British Spring Clean is a brilliant initiative for communities to come together and take action against litter — enhancing all the incredible ways our environmental and street scene teams keep our district clean and tidy.
“Sometimes, problem litter can include ‘retro rubbish’ that was dropped many years ago but is still causing harm to our environment today, releasing greenhouse gases as it slowly breaks down in our soil and water, which contributes to the climate crisis.
“This is a great opportunity to join with family, friends, neighbours and achieve something for the greater good. So, if you want to help protect our wildlife and the places you love this Spring, join the initiative today.”
During the spring clean campaign, information will be shared on how residents can get involved in community litter picks via www.newark-sherwooddc.gov.uk/communitylitterpicking/.
The council is able to provide litter-picking equipment, and remove the collected litter.
Activies can also be logged on Green Rewards to earn points, and on the LitterLotto app.
