State-of-the-art gym opens at Active4Today Dukeries Leisure Centre, Ollerton, after refurbishment as part of £700,000 programme supported by Newark and Sherwood District Council
Work has been completed at the first of three leisure centres to benefit from a £700,000 refurbishment programme.
The newly-upgraded state-of- the-art fitness suite at The Dukeries Leisure Centre, New Ollerton, has now opened.
The work has been completed as part of the Active4Today on-going refurbishment programme — and Newark and Sherwood District Council has supported the programme by providing £700,000 to upgrade the fitness suites at three leisure centres.
It will include some re-modelling at the centres to create larger fitness suites, as well as a fresh new look to create an exciting environment for exercising and getting fit.
Susan Crosby, portfolio holder for health and wellbeing at the council, said: “Regular exercise is one of the best things residents can do to stay healthy and happy. Exercise has often been linked with good mental health as well as the physical benefits it brings. To me it makes sense for us, as a district council, to do everything we can to ensure access to wonderful facilities like these are available to our residents.”
This first refurbishment has taken a week at the Dukeries Leisure Centre. The work has now moved on to Blidworth Leisure Centre — from Monday, October 28 — and will then move on to Newark Sports and Fitness Centre from Monday, November 4.
All the refurbishment work is due to be completed by Monday, November 11.
New equipment at the sites will include athlete-quality self-powered curved treadmills, air bikes, SkiErgs, new static bikes, cross trainers, and powermill climbers, and will be able to cater for every work-out from high-performance workouts to low impact activity.
Andy Freeman, chairman of the board of Active4Today added: “As fitness trends change, technology also moves on at a fast pace and this new equipment is fully digital enabled, linking to the Life Fitness online coaching platform. This is a great addition for our customers.
“Our customers are important to us, so we want to make sure that they experience as little inconvenience as possible whilst this impressive upgrade takes place, but we know when customers return, they’ll see that it’s been worth it. The fitness suites are going to be amazing.
“The works will only affect the fitness suites, so we hope that members will continue to use our swimming, fitness classes, off-peak racquet sports and blast fitness sessions to stay active. And, of course, our members can still use any of our leisure centres as part of their membership at Active4Today.”
