Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service release statement on Newark scrapyard fire attended by crews from eight stations




The fire service has released a statement on the Newark scrapyard fire attended by crews from eight stations.

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "We received a call at 7.30am this morning to a scrapyard fire on Great North Road in Newark.

"A 10x20 metre area of scrap materials and site machinery were on fire. There were no casualties.

"One fire engine remains on scene to dampen down and inspect the area. There is no indication of the cause at this time.

"Crews from Newark, Collingham, Ashfield, Bingham, Edwinstowe, Mansfield, Worksop and Retford attended."

The fire was confirmed to be at Briggs Metals, which had suffered a major blaze in 2019 when 1,000 tonnes of scrap metal were alight for more than 24 hours.

Briggs Metals said this morning's fire was a small fire which they had managed to put out themselves, but called the fire brigade anyway.

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue service said re-inspections will take place throughout the day.
