Strong start for schools petition
A petition calling for investment in Newark’s secondary schools was signed by more than 1,000 people in the first weekend after its launch in the Advertiser.
Members of the Support Our Schools campaign, along with the MP for Newark, Mr Patrick Mercer, held a stall in Newark Market Place on Saturday when nearly 1,000 people signed up to the petition.
More signed the petition themselves online over the weekend.
It calls on the Government to find the money to pay for the work required at the Grove, Orchard and Magnus schools.
The schools had been promised rebuilding or extensive repairs as part of the Building Schools for the Future programme which has been scrapped by the Government.
It is hoped that 5,000 signatures can be achieved in the first two weeks in order to send a strong message to the Government.
The petition can be signed at www.sos-newark.btck.co.ukA Facebook page, SOS Newark — Support Our Schools — has been created to promote the campaign.
