Students create float
Students at Newark College have helped to create a Father Christmas float that will be used by Newark Lions Club to raise money for charity.
The float was used for the first time on Tuesday when it was at the Victoria Street branch of the Co-op and will be out again on Saturday at Sainbury’s in Balderton.
Lions member Jean Solder said the students had been extremely helpful with skills including art, metalwork and woodwork.
She said: “The work the staff and students have put in has been tremendous. The Lions provided the trailer and all the materials and the students have done the rest.
“They are extremely proud and rightly so of their wonderful work.”
The float will be fully used for the first time next year when the aim is to take it to villages in the Newark area not covered by the float belonging to Newark Round Table. That float continues its tour tonight when it will be on Bowbridge Road, Lime Grove and Hatton Gardens.
It finishes tomorrow with a visit to the Winthorpe Road estate.
