Toot Hill School in Bingham, Nottinghamshire students elated with their results after impact of covid affects studies
There was a sense of relief and optimism by students as they opened their GSCE results at Toot Hill School, in the aftermath of the global pandemic.
"It must not be forgotten that the pandemic hugely impacted on the learning of this year group, and it says much about their strength of character that their exam results are very similar to those seen at Toot Hill before the pandemic," said the head teacher Dr Chris Eardley.
"I am incredibly proud of our Year 11 students."
Students gathered at the Bingham school with families to eagerly await the envelopes that contained their results.
Many were happy with their results which will help assist them in achieving their goals for the future.
"They have worked diligently throughout their time at Toot Hill to secure an outstanding set of results that enable them to confidently access the next exciting stage of their working lives," said Chris.
"We are delighted that the majority of these students will continue to study at Toot Hill next year as part of our college and wish all other students the best of luck in their next career destination.
“82% of our students secured grade four or higher in both GCSE English and Maths, with 68 % securing grade five or higher.
"Furthermore, nine students secured an astonishing seven or more GCSEs at grade nine.
“I would also like to take this opportunity to thank our staff, parents and carers.
"By working closely as a team, we have been able to support our students to achieve great things.”
Sandy Paley, Executive Head Teacher, said: “We’re delighted to see so many of our pupils secure the grades they need to move onto their preferred destinations."
"I am very happy today," said student Jason Yeung.
"I am very excited, I think we need to check that these results belong to me."
Jason did very well, achieving nines in biology, business, chemistry, English language, English Literature, maths, further maths, physics, and media studies.
He also achieved an eight in history.
"I am not exactly sure what I want to do in the future," said Jason.
"I think I will work in science or mathematics, something in the STEM fields."
Jason will now move onto A-level studies where he will undertake maths, further maths, physics, and chemistry subjects.
"Anything is possible if you work hard to get good results," he added.
Oliver Ng achieved ten nines and one eight in Spanish.
"I am very happy with my results," said Oliver.
"I wasn't expecting to get nines in the English subjects."
Oliver achieved the only nine at the school in computer science said a spokesman.
Oliver achieved nines in biology, chemistry, business, computer science, English language, English literature, maths, physics, geography, Spanish, and further maths.
"For my career, I am hoping to do something in the field of astrophysics," said Oliver.
Oliver will stay on at Toot Hill to study his A-levels in maths, further maths, physics, and chemistry subjects.
"I am very happy, I was expecting my results to be worse," said Rebecca Lee.
"I thought the grade bands would be higher.
"The hard work has paid off."
The student achieved nines in biology, business, citizenship studies, English language, English literature, French, and history.
She achieved eights in chemistry, maths, and physics.
Rebecca has aspirations to do a law degree and will now move on to study A-level history, French, and economics.
Annie Beeson said that the lead-up to receiving her results was stressful.
"I am quite relieved," said Annie.
"I put my foot down in year 11 during covid and studied hard."
Annie received six nines in biology, business, English language, English literature, geography, and dance.
She achieved three eights in physics, maths, and chemistry plus a seven in Spanish.
Annie will now be leaving Toot Hill to go to a dance college in Leicester.
She said that her long-term career plans are to go to university and pursue a dance career.
Colin Wong achieved six nines in geography, chemistry, music, biology, history, and maths.
He achieved eights in physics, Spanish, and further mathematics.
He also received a seven in English literature.
"I am excited now that I am holding my results," said Colin.
He said he did better in some subjects than he had anticipated.
Colin wants to be a professional violinist and has already started on his journey to achieve this goal.
He has been playing for over ten years, has his grade eight in violin, and is a member of the Nottingham Youth Orchestra.
