A developer will spend £48m building the first part of the Growth Point south of Newark.

Avant Homes will begin building 173 homes around the first stretch of the southern link road in the summer.

The development, which will be called Middlebeck, will be on a 16.8-acre site and will form part of a wider £500m Growth Point project planned for the south of Newark by developer Urban and Civic.

Mr Richard Coppell, development director for Urban and Civic, said: “We are delighted to welcome Avant Homes as our first house-builder at Newark.

“This is a significant milestone and signals the start of large-scale housing delivery.

“The first phase of the southern link road has transformed the land and we are looking forward to building on this momentum over the coming months with the first homes, on-site roads and green spaces at Middlebeck.”

The homes built by Avant will be a mixture of three, four and five-bedroomed semi-detached and detached properties.

Planning permission was granted last month.

"Exciting project."

Groundwork is expected to start in the summer with the first homes ready for occupation early next year.

Avant Homes Midlands managing director Mr Glyn Mabey said: “We are pleased to be the first house-builder to be granted planning permission to begin building as part of this exciting project for Newark and the surrounding area.

“This development will offer buyers exceptional quality and innovative design features and we are looking forward to work getting under way.”

As well as 3,150 homes, the Newark urban extension project will provide new schools, community facilities and green spaces and amenities, including walkways, footpaths and cycleways.
