Sunlight that reflected off make-up mirror caused curtain fire

A pair of curtains caught fire in a house when sunlight reflected off a make-up mirror and projected an intense beam of heat onto them.
Crews from Retford, Edwinstowe and Newark were called to a property on Great North Road, Weston, at 1.49pm on Monday.
The owner rushed upstairs after she could smell burning and saw that the curtains had just caught fire. They used a bath mat to beat it out before it developed.
Crews damped down and cut away burnt material, before leaving at 2.14pm.
Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue has advised people not to keep make-up mirrors near windows as reflected rays can set fire to curtains, paper, clothing and furniture.
