Party held in Newark's Sconce and Devon Park for the Queen's birthday is a success
Members of the community attended a birthday party for the Queen at Sconce and Devon Park.
Town and district councillor Laurence Goff organised the event, which featured more than 30 flags to represent all communities and a series of games.
The party took place on Thursday afternoon, the Queen's 96th birthday.
Mr Goff said: "It was great as it is all about connecting with the people, and we want to make sure people understand the significance of the Queen and her 70th anniversary, so I'm glad the children came out to help with the celebrations."
Over the afternoon children, parents and other members of the community were able to make the most of the sunshine by taking part in games.
Lynn Preece, environment programme manager, added: "We are doing some recycling games today, and some circus games and lots of old fashioned games and just having a bit of a retro feel to the day."
Later in the afternoon, The Friends of Sconce and Devon Park gathered to do some gardening at the front of the park.
Member Gill White said: "I came down to help with the planting but I heard about Laurence's celebrations and also about Lynn's circus skills so I wanted to see it all in action.
"It's been really wonderful, it's just great."
Many families attended the event, where children were able to take part in games whilst also celebrating the Queen and learning more about recycling.
Simon Hill, park ranger at Sconce and Devon Park, said: "We are trying to get the kids and parents into recycling which is really important, and I think it would be nice to take this event to other local parks.
"Today is all thanks to Laurence for the Queen's birthday, as what started off as a low-key event flying a few flags became all these people playing and having a bit of fun and enjoying the park."
Mr Goff had also placed a selection of jubilee mugs outside of Rumbles Café on the park, to show the families, as well as some information about the flags.
