The Kings C of E Primary Academy, Newark, receives £500 grant from Aldi

A supermarket’s £500 grant and ongoing food donation has helped a school support it’s pupils and families.

Aldi has donated £500 to The Kings C of E Primary Academy, Newark, to help enhance the school’s resources for this half-term.

It was one of 10 schools to benefit from a £5,000 total donation from the UK’s fourth largest supermarket, provided in partnership with community giving platform Neighbourly.

The grant scheme is part of the supermarket’s ongoing efforts to support local communities and educational initiatives across the UK — which also includes donations of surplus food throughout the term.

Laura Marchant, admin manager at The Kings C of E Primary Academy, said: “Our King's community hub is making such a difference to the lives of many families in our community. Without grants from businesses we would not be able to support our families. The children look forward to our weekly opening, where one child expressed that 'Today is my favourite day.’

“To be able to provide a bag of food for the half term really does take the pressure of our families — nearly half of our school are entitled to free school meals.”

Luke Emery, national sustainability director at Aldi, added: “We’re delighted to be able to donate this grant to The Kings C of E Primary Academy, and hope that the support will allow them to continue the fantastic work that they do in helping children to succeed.

“At Aldi, we are committed to supporting the local communities we serve, and this is one of many initiatives this year that will see us give back to people across Britain.”

Shoppers can also donate food to local charities, food banks and community groups via the community donation points in Aldi stores nationwide.
