Morrisons partners with Newark Foodbank

A supermarket has partnered with Newark Foodbank.

Morrisons have set up a donations box for customers in their store.

The partnership between the supermarket and the Foodbank started a month ago and already the box has been filled twice.

Customer first - community champion Lindsey Edwards is running the initiative in Newark.

Lindsey has been in her role for three years but two months ago Morrisons increased her hours from eight to 20.

Lindsey said: "The increase in hours obviously means I can get more involved. It gives me another level of flexibility."

The customer first - community champion role is currently being trialled in Morrisons stores around the country.

The aim is to increase the relationship between the supermarket and the community.

Lindsey said: "It's great to have a foodbank in the local community.

"Just seeing how much has been donated in the first month shows how united we are and how great everyone is when we all pull together."

Newark Foodbank's Jenni Harding said that they'd been trying to get Morrisons on board for years.

Jenni said: "It's great to work with them, every item donated is very much appreciated.

"The box here is much bigger than at some of our other locations and it's great it's getting filled up."

So far, the usual items such as pasta and tinned vegetables have been donated as well as sanitary products and shower gel.
