Newark Foodbank receives over 800 kilos of items thanks to Asda food drive

More than 800 kilos of items spanning from teabags to hotdogs were donated as part of a supermarket drive for Newark Foodbank.

While doing shops of their own, Newark Asda shoppers were generous enough to donate some food and drink items to those less fortunate.

A whopping 810.8 kilogrammes of donations were given throughout the drive at Asda across Friday and Saturday — a fantastic achievement thanks to Newark Foodbank volunteers and representatives at the supermarket.

Foodbank volunteer Jenni Harding said the foodbank now had surplus stock of the items it was falling short of.

“It was a fantastic experience to see people and their kids just rushing up to give some items to us, or cash if they’d already done their shopping,” said Jenni.

“Newark people are so generous.”

Asda manager Karl Carthew said: “A big thank you to all our customers for their generosity in these difficult times.”

Sinead Hinch, Asda community champion, added: “We are blown away by the support shown to the foodbank by our customers — thank you.”

Newark Foodbank is looking for volunteers to pack parcels at its local warehouse for three hours on a weekday as part of a small team.

Training is given and if you are interested you should fill in the form on Newark Foodbank’s website under Donate Time.
