Nottinghamshire County Councillor Sam Smith contributes £1,000 to support improvement plans at Collis Close Park, Beacon Hill, Newark

A park is a step closer to much-needed upgrades, after a councillor’s £1,000 contribution.

Nottinghamshire County Councillor Sam Smith allocated the funding, from his Community Divisional Fund, to Newark Town Council for the development of Collis Close Park, Beacon Hill.

It will support the planned improvements as part of a wider effort to enhance the park for residents — including new play equipment with inclusive features for disabled children, and a dedicated dog exercise area.

Mr Smith is also supporting the town council’s bid for further funding from Nottinghamshire County Council’s Local Communities Fund, which could help bring the project to fruition.

Mr Smith said: “Collis Close Park is a valued community space, but it’s clear that investment is needed to bring it up to the standard our residents deserve. I’m pleased to contribute £1,000 from my Community Divisional Fund to help move this project forward and to support Newark Town Council’s funding application.

“If successful, these improvements will transform the park into a safer, more inclusive, and vibrant space for everyone. I look forward to seeing how this project develops and the positive impact it will have on our community’s quality of life.”

The proposed plans aim to create a more engaging and family-friendly space, with improved safety measures, additional seating, and new landscaping featuring trees and hedgerows from the Woodland Trust.
