Surface repairs on to-do list
Village roads are to be resurfaced after complaints about their poor state of repair.
Fourteen roads in Farndon are on the Nottinghamshire County Council work list for the 2013/14 financial year.
Concern was raised that Marsh Lane, which has been partially resurfaced, was particularly bad and dangerous for cyclists.
Parish councillor Mr Peter Gafney, of Sandhill Road, said: “It goes back to when they resurfaced Marsh Lane last year. They did half of it but ignored the rest and left potholes. There was an expectation that it would all be done.
“It is a problem for cyclists because if they want to stick close to the kerb the road is not an even surface.
“The roads are from the 1950s and are perhaps designed for traffic levels of that era.”
Mr Gafney said patching roads in winter was false economy and it would be better to resurface them.
Another resident said: “I ride a bike occasionally and it is not a pleasant experience. It is a bad surface with lots of potholes and sunken drains.
“I can’t understand the logic of only doing half of it.”
The county councillor for Farndon, Mrs Sue Saddington, said: “The other half of Marsh Lane was looked at and I have lobbied for it to be done.
“They can’t do it this year but it is on the list for next year.
“I understand that it seems strange that half has been done and half not, and the council does accept it needs doing, but there are also other roads that need doing.
“Lodge Lane at Elston has been affected by heavy traffic during the A46 work and is in a bad state, as is Moor Lane at East Stoke.”
Mrs Saddington said the council had included 14 Farndon roads on its resurfacing list.
As well as Marsh Lane, they are Chapel Lane, Church Street, Cross Lane, Fairfield Avenue, Main Street, North End, Nursery Avenue, Sandhill Road, School Lane, St Peter’s Close, The Meadows, West End and White Lane.
“We have been fortunate to get a list that long,” Mrs Saddington said.
Potholes will continue to be filled until the resurfacing is carried out.
