Surveys mark next stage of A46 Newark Bypass scheme
Survey work is soon to start on the land and ground conditions alongside the A46, from Farndon roundabout to the Winthorpe roundabout, ahead of its potential dualling.
As part of the A46 Newark Bypass scheme, Highways England will carry out walking and aerial surveys, as well as sampling and shallow excavation works.
It will also be using drilling rigs to collect sample cores of the underlying geology.
An independent company is currently analysing the responses received from the recent public consultation about the dualling scheme.
The feedback will be considered as part of selecting a preferred route option later this year.
The survey works will start this month and be completed by early summer.
Work will be take place during normal day working hours — 8am to 5pm — wherever possible.
Some work will be completed overnight, to survey locations on the existing A46 road where it is safer and less disruptive to complete the work overnight.
Highways England said although most of the surveys would take place off the existing A46, there were some areas where it would need to implement temporary traffic management to maintain a safe environment for its workforce and road-users, which may include temporarily closing lanes or short sections of road.
Highways England said: “We’ll advertise any closures in advance and provide a suitable diversion route for any closures.
“If we need to temporarily close a section of road, we’ll do this overnight when traffic is quieter. The works will be carefully planned to minimise disruption.
“We have contacted landowners directly to request access to land outside of our network, and plan to start the survey works on private land first.”
