Suspended prison sentence for man caught carrying knife among Nottingham Magistrates’ Court outcomes

A man caught carrying a knife has received a suspended prison sentence.

John Beckett, 27, was caught on Appletongate, Newark, in possession of the knife.

The 27-year-old, of Devon Road, Newark, admitted the charge and received a 12-week jail sentence, suspended for a year.

A community order he was subject to at the time was revoked.

In a separate case, a driver has avoided a totting-up ban despite earning enough points.

Paul Hornigold, 55, should have been banned after clocking up a further six points for two offences of speeding on the A52 at Radcliffe that were committed within a week of each other.

However, magistrates took into account personal mitigation and did not ban Hornigold, of Thornton Mews, Bingham.

They heard a ban would impact his job as it would be difficult for him to travel between warehouses and support stores.

It would also disadvantage several people close to him who have medical needs.

Hornigold was fined £131 for each offence and must £194 costs.

The registered keeper of a car has been banned from the roads for six months for failing to reveal who was driving it to police.

Magistrates heard the driver had been suspected of committing a criminal offence.

Shea Hebblethwaite, 20, of Gaitskell Way, Balderton, had denied the offence, but the case against him was proved in absence.

Hebblethwaite was also fined £275 and will have to pay £119 in costs.
