Sounds of Splendour to bring their unique sound to St Giles’ Church, Balderton in fundraising concert
A talented trio of musicians who offer a unique blend of trumpet, voice and keyboard will be performing at a Balderton church next month.
Sounds of Splendour are set to bring their unique sound to St Giles’ Church on Saturday March 15, raising funds for the fabric of the church.
The trio are three friends who perform a range of pieces from the baroque to contemporary pop, arranged for various trumpets, soprano voice, piano, and organ.
Their programme for the concert at St Giles’s Church revolves around the theme of love - from an early Italian cantata about jealousy, to a setting of the EE Cummings poem ‘Love is more thicker than forget’ by Julian Philips, as well as a famous Handel arias, a song by Benjamin Britten, and themes from The Godfather, Chinatown, and the Oblivion tango by Piazzolla — ending with Beyoncé’s Crazy in Love.
Caroline Sharpe is a well-known, award-winning local soprano, a regular soloist with the Newark Choral Society who trained at Birmingham Conservatoire, and is joined by Andy Harris who plays a range of different trumpets, with Fergus Black on the piano and organ.
Caroline performs with choral societies around the Midlands, and her operatic roles include Musetta in Pucinni’s La Boheme, Nero in Monteverdi’s Incoronazione di Poppea and Pamina in Mozart’s Die Zauberflote.
Music has always been a great love of Andy Harris from an early age. He is music leader for brass with Sheffield Music Hub and continues to perform in a range of events and functions.
Fergus Black was born in Scotland and after taking his degree at St. Andrews University, he studied music in the USA at the University of Pennsylvania and at UCLA. He is semi-retired choosing to play in concerts he enjoys with people he likes and teaches a few hours each week.
The performance by Sounds of Splendour will start at 7.30pm. Tickets are £10 each (under 16’s free) and are available in advance from 07976 155027 and on the door
