Team revs up for rally
A former pupil of the Minster School, Southwell, is planning to travel 10,000 miles in a second-hand car to raise money for charity.
Miss Sam Rickett (22) of Radley Road, Halam, will take part in the Mongol Rally, which sees teams from across Europe make their way to Mongolia.
She is part of a team of six taking it in turns to drive a Ford Fiesta, bought for £128.90 on eBay, and a Skoda Felicia.
There is no set route — the aim is to have an adventure.
There are no support teams and cars taking part must have engines of less than 1.2 litres.
Miss Rickett, a student at Nottingham Trent University, has wanted to take part in the rally since hearing about it in a pub a few years ago.
She said: “It sounded like the most amazing thing in the world and this summer I had got some time so I thought I would do it.
“You are very much on your own so you can have as much of an adventure as possible.”
Miss Rickett hopes to raise £2,000 for the Christina Noble Children’s Foundation, a charity that works with homeless children in Mongolia.
Any money raised over the £2,000 will go to Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance.
