Teaming up for fundraising year

Members of Southwell Rugby Club have teamed up with a charity that supports adults with learning difficulties.

The club has chosen Reach Learning Disability as its chosen charity for the year.

Over the next 12 months the club will raise as much money as possible for Reach.

The club invited Reach to their matches last month when the teams took on Spalding and Newark.

Sarah Cobb, fundraising officer for Reach, said: “We appreciate the support from local clubs and teams. It really helps to boost awareness within the local area, as well as raising some much-needed money for the charity.

“The weather was beautiful and spectators lined the side-lines while the Reach marquee sat up on the hill.

“Staff from Reach wore their orange shirts and sold raffle tickets while cheering on the teams.”

Reach has centres in Southwell, Newark and Mansfield and also runs the Flower Pod cut-flower business based at Brackenhurst.

On the day of the matches, volunteers and service-users were selling flowers from Flower Pod for Mother’s Day and hosted a daffodil game.

Alex Brown, clubhouse and events manager for Southwell Rugby Club, said: “It was a great way to kick off the relationship with our local charity and we are looking forward to working together in the future.”

A raffle raised £127.
