Response and roads policing teams join forces to stop suspected car thief in Balderton
Response and roads policing officers joined forces to recover a stolen car and make an arrest.
Patrolling officers spotted a vehicle believed to be on cloned plates on London Road, Balderton, at around 5.50pm on Tuesday, April 22.
Response officers turned around after the initial sighting, and followed the suspect car until it became blocked in and stopped in Orchid Close.
The driver then sprang from the vehicle and made a run for it — leading to a foot chase down a path next to Balderton Lake.
The roads policing team had been notified, and one of their officers joined response colleagues in the chase.
Faced with the prospect of trying to outrun the officers, the suspect slowed down and was put in handcuffs.
The 43-year-old man was subsequently arrested on suspicion of vehicle theft, driving while disqualified, and driving without valid insurance.
Sergeant Alan Pawson, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “This was a great example of our policing teams working in tandem to secure a positive result.
“In this instance, PC Lyndsey Neville and PC Emilie Carr, from our Newark response team, reacted to intelligence about a car being spotted on cloned plates and quickly identified the vehicle in question.
“Thanks to this good spot, the officers were able to trail the car from a safe distance, while also notifying the roads policing team nearby so that they could assist.
“Between them, they then managed to successfully chase down a suspect when they tried to flee from the scene, with these efforts ultimately resulting in both an arrest and a stolen car being recovered.”
