Teenager dies after being hit by train at Bingham

An 18-year-old youth has died this afternoon after being hit by a train at Bingham.

A spokesman from the British Transport Police said: “Officers were called to Bingham station at 12.35pm today after reports that a person had been struck by a train.

“Colleagues from the ambulance service also attended, however, an 18-year-old man was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

“His family have been informed and the incident is not currently being treated as suspicious.”

The line, which runs between Nottingham and Grantham, was temporarily closed and a replacement bus service was put in place.

East Midlands Trains expect the normal timetable to resume at 4.30pm.
