Temple Hill wind farm plans criticised by councillors

Plans for five 126.5-metre wind turbines have been criticised by councillors who fear they could blight an unspoilt rural landscape.

Newark and Sherwood District Council planning committee was asked to comment on RWE npower Renewables’ plans for Temple Hill wind farm because of the impact it could have on parts of the district.

The application site, between Stubton and Brandon, is in South Kesteven and the application will be decided by the district council there.

Newark and Sherwood planners were told that in comparison with the proposed turbines, Newark Parish Church was 77-metres high.

A member of Barnby Parish Council, which is about 5km from the proposed wind farm, feared it would spoil the character of the area.

Mrs Jeanette Barlow said: “The views are beautiful. All you can see towards the Lincoln Ridge is open views of farmland and church spires and the turbines will spoil it.”

She said the turbines would have an impact on people who used the footpaths and countryside for recreation.

Planning committee member Mr Dennis Jones said: “I am tired of hearing about how much electricity turbines generate.

“Anyone who doubts the harm these monstrosities cause in areas of pristine Britain should visit Cornwall and Prestatyn where the scene is blighted.

“We can certainly argue the cumulative impact of turbines close to Newark is substantial.”

Mrs Sue Saddington said: “It is truly a pastoral scene looking towards Lincoln Ridge but these things are peppering our county.”

Mrs Gill Dawn said: “We are lucky to have a village like Barnby left. It is a beautiful location.”

The committee’s objections will be sent to South Kesteven District Council.

Mrs Maureen Dobson, the district councillor for Barnby, said she was disappointed that the officers’ recommendation was to raise no objection.

“I think South Kesteven deserve some support from us, and we should send the message,” she said.
