Ten new properties off Barnby Road approved by Newark and Sherwood District Council

Ten new properties in Newark were unanimously approved by Newark and Sherwood District Council’s planning committee.

The application, for land off Barnby Road, also includes the demolition of an existing property on the site, Grove Bungalow, and the addition of two new bus stops on Barnby Road.

It was brought to the committee again last week after originally being approved in March with a revised sewage drainage strategy.

The conditions of the previous application stated drainage must be implemented on third party land prior to any other development being carried out on the site.

However, the committee heard the applicant Richmond and Pritchett couldn’t come to an agreement with the adjoining landowner regarding the issue.

The most recent proposal was approved on the grounds the applicant would sort on-site pumping stations and drainage infrastructure within three months.

The conditions also include £13,000 to be allocated for the two new bus stops.

Member Laurence Goff aid: “I do welcome buses because we need to get more people using the facility, and I just want to say I’m grateful for that.”

Previously, plans had been submitted in August 2020 to develop 19 properties. In the November, plans for 17 were submitted.

Reasons for refusal included a failure to demonstrate each application would keep the character of the area, as well as a failure to secure an appropriate drainage solution.
