Lowdham Horticultural Society Summer Show still going strong at 130 years young
A village’s summer horticultural show is still growing strong as it celebrates 130 years young.
Organisers of the Lowdham Horticultural Society Summer Show said it was great to see so many local residents and people from further afield enjoying this fantastic traditional village horticultural show, now celebrating 130 years since the seed was first sown.
Show secretary Anne Cross said the lovely weather, more entrants, exhibits, a record number of visitors and a fantastic programme of afternoon entertainment added to the brilliant atmosphere and success of the show.
“The marquee, full of home-grown vegetables, fruit, beautiful flowers, flower arrangements, crafts, home-baking, preserves, and young people’s exhibits looked amazing. The judges were impressed with the overall standard of exhibits and in some classes, it was difficult for them to choose the winners,” said Anne.
Music was performed by Nottingham Concert Band, an acrobatic display by the Dako Flying Angels, Mr Jolly Jingles, traditional games, children’s activities and a variety of stalls added to the occasion, were all enjoyed with a cup of tea and home-made cake or a drink from the bar.
“Our traditional duck race added to the entertainment and rounded off what was very successful show,” she said.
“We were delighted to welcome the horticultural lecturer, writer and broadcaster, Stuart Dixon to present the prizes.
“Thank you to everyone who entered in, attended or helped with our Summer Show. It takes a lot of work from many people to put on a show like this but it is certainly worth it when we see so many people, local and from further afield, enjoying themselves.”
