Thousands expected at Advertiser Ladies Day

Thousands of people are expected at Ladies Day at Southwell Racecourse on Sunday.

The event, held in conjunction with Advertiser Media Group, promises a full programme of racing, plus entertainment into the evening.

Last year nearly 9,000 visitors attended, what has locally become a highlight of the social calendar. This year a similar number is expected.

Gates open at 11am when there will be musical entertainment by a band who will perform throughout the site before making their way to the main stage.

There is a full afternoon with seven jump races starting at 2pm.

The final race is scheduled for 5.25pm, and will be followed by the best-dressed competition with prizes for the best three, which include a Porsche driving experience at Silverstone and spa days at Eden Hall Day Spa, champagne afternoon tea, and jewellery.

All the winners will receive a hand-tied bouquet and two tickets to the Gentleman’s Day at Southwell Racecourse in December.

There will be live music on the main stage until 7pm from The Take That Experience, who will be marking 25 years since the formation of the real Take That.

Transport

Travel Wright will be running a specially-arranged shuttle bus from Newark and Southwell.

Places on the Southwell bus are on a first-come first-served basis from the bus stop on Church Street and cost £2.50 return.

The first bus leaves at noon. The return shuttles will leave the racecourse about 20 minutes after the entertainment ends.

The Newark shuttle, which is £4 return, must be booked with Travel Wright in advance.

It leaves from near Zizzi restaurant, Castlegate, at noon and returns after the evening entertainment.

The improved Sunday service offered by East Midlands Trains to Rolleston means racegoers can travel to and from the event by train with the station within easy walking distance of the venue.

The event will be well signed for those who decide to drive.

As usual on a Sunday there is no road access to the racecourse through Rolleston.

A new package, the Trackside Lawn, was the first to sell out. Other packages range from admission only to luxurious restaurant packages.
