Newark Community Soup raises thousands for groups including Newark Emmaus Trust, Home Start, Mending Lines, Newark Mencap, Newark Book Festival, and the Children's Air Ambulance

More than £2,000 have now been distributed to community groups in Newark thanks to a winter-warming group.

Newark Community Soup was launched in July 2022 by a group of local people who make a variety of soups and bread free of charge on the last Friday of each month in Newark Market.

People can choose to give a donation and have a chat with the team, and any donations, given voluntarily, are given to a good cause or charity chosen each month.

Now the funds raised have seen £2,055.97 distributed in donations to groups and organisations including Scouts, Brownies and Cubs, various school groups and a school library project.

Other groups to receive funds from NSC include the Sea Cadets, Boys Brigade and Girls Association, Newark Emmaus Trust, Forest Schools, Home Start, Mending Lines, Newark Mencap, Newark Book Festival, the Children's Air Ambulance, and more.

Newark Community Soup’s next event will be Friday February 28 on a stall near the Town Hall.

A spokesman for NCS has extended “big thanks to all those who have had homemade soups and bread and donated so much”.
