Thousands raised for cancer charity

Coffee mornings held to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Care have raised thousands of pounds.

Schools, groups and businesses were among those who organised the events as part of the World's Biggest Coffee Morning, which took place on Friday in support of the charity.

Staff at Waitrose, Newark, raised about £800 at their coffee morning which was attended by about 200 people.

A tombola and a card stall were among the attractions at a coffee morning held at Bingham Methodist Church.

The event raised about £220.

Pupils at the Dukeries College, Ollerton, held a coffee morning at elderly day centre which is part of the Dukeries Complex.

The event was attended by the priest-in-charge of Ollerton and Boughton Rev Richard Goodhand and the Mayor of Ollerton and Boughton, Mrs Irene Miller.

A total of £2,150 was raised at a coffee morning at Trebeck Hall in the grounds of Southwell Minster on Saturday.
