Newark Northgate Train Station Travel Centre opening hours being revised by operator London North Eastern Railway

The opening hours of a Newark train station ticket office are being changed.

London North Eastern Railway (LNER), which runs through Newark Northgate, is revising the opening hours of the station's travel centre.

The rail company said the changes included a reduction in hours as well as opening earlier in some cases.

It said this was to ensure greater alignment with the needs of its customers.

An LNER spokesman said: “We are revising the opening hours at Newark Northgate Travel Centre operated by LNER.

“The proposed changes include a reduction in hours as well as opening earlier in some cases to ensure greater alignment with the needs of our customers."

Jennifer Harding, of Newark, said she had concerns of the proposed changes.

"I was told of the proposed changes a few days ago when I was purchasing tickets," she said.

"I've sent an email protesting and received a reply from Transport Focus (the independent transport user watchdog).

"They said my comments would be included in its response to LNER."

Jennifer is now urging others to submit their thoughts.

People can do this by emailing schedule17@transportfocus.org.uk before September 13.

LNER said a review of customer buying behaviour had been undertaken to ensure the ticket office operating hours were sufficient and in line with demand.

The review used transaction data from 2019 to ensure the covid-19 pandemic did not impact the information.

Customers are able to purchase tickets in a number of ways, including at ticket machines, lner.co.uk, its app and by calling its customer contact centre on 0345 722 5333.
