The Newark panto opened yesterday in front of a packed Palace Theatre audience.
Almost 1,000 school children watched the first performances of Beauty And The Beast.

Theatre business manager Karys Coulton-Jones said overall ticket sales were up by around 1,300 on last year.

Comedian Bernie Clifton stars as Professor Crackpot, along with his trusty ostrich Oswald.

Beauty and the Beast sees the Count of Cristi Monto (Richard Hurst) under the spell of the evil Witch Hazel (Helen Jeckells). Only the true love of Beauty (Naomi Slater) can break the spell.

The show runs until January 6. Tickets are available from the Palace box office on 01636 655755 or www.palacenewark.com
