Tickets on sale for festival stars
Tickets for Scouting For Girls, the headline act at this summer’s Newark Festival, go on sale today.
The chart-toppers, whose hits include Elvis Ain’t Dead, Heartbeat, This Ain’t A Love Song and She’s So Lovely, will head the concert at the Riverside Park, Newark, on the evening of August 25.
The tickets are available online at www.newarkfestival.co.uk for £20.
Newark residents can buy discounted tickets for £15 from Newark Town Hall from Wednesday, June 13.
The tickets need to be bought in person on production of a council tax bill, showing that tax is paid to Newark Town Council, and evidence of address, such as a utility bill or driving licence.
They can be bought from 10am to 3.30pm Monday to Friday.
The town council is investing £100,000 in the festival, which has been developed to support the town’s retailers, pubs, cafés and restaurants to provide a boost to tourism.
The town clerk, Mr Alan Mellor, said preparations were going well and they were looking forward to announcing more acts as they were confirmed.
He said: “By investing in a headline act like Scouting For Girls we are confident that the return on ticket sales will mean the festival can be delivered within the approved budget figure.”
The chairman of the council’s environment and leisure committee, Mr Dennis Jones, said by working in partnership with Newark-based Liz Hobbs Group he was confident the weekend would give residents an event to remember, while also attracting visitors to the town.
He said: “The longer term ambition is that this will be the first of an annual festival which, if successful, will grow and become bigger in future years.”
The festival starts on Friday, August 24 with an evening of jazz at Ann et Vin on Castlegate, Newark.
The following day there will be a food festival in the town centre with stalls for local food producers in Newark Market Place, Clinton Arms Court, Stodman Street and St Mark’s Place.
There will also be walkabout street entertainers and musicians.
On the Sunday there will be a programme of free activities throughout the day at the Riverside Park finishing with the traditional Brass Explosion and a fireworks display.
