Tills jingle for thieves

Business owners are being urged not to leave cash in tills and cash floats in premises overnight.

The request has come from Nottinghamshire Police following a series of burglaries at restaurants, cafes and takeaways in the Newark area, Mansfield and Nottingham over the past three days.

A number of town centre retail premises in Worksop have also been targeted during hours of closure.

The force’s Pre-Crime Unit, which offers crime prevention advice to businesses and individuals, has issued the following guidance via the www.nottsbusinesswatch.co.uk email alert system:

• Install an autodial alarm, which can be linked to the police control

room.

• Ensure the till drawer is left open overnight to make it clear that there is

no cash present.

• Display a clearly visible, brightly coloured notice stating that there is no

cash left on the premises overnight. Printable notices are available to

Business Watch subscribers or by contacting the Pre-Crime Unit

(details below).

• If necessary, make use of a safe to store cash.

For more details and other crime prevention measures, telephone the Nottinghamshire Police Pre-Crime Unit on 101, extension 800 3035.
