Toot Hill College: A-level results day 2019
There was a positive reaction from students and teachers alike at Toot Hill College, as 80% of pupils achieved achieved A* to C.
An average B grade was achieved by students, who had the pick of 36 different subjects across A-level and BTEC.
Among the highest achievers was Josh Grant, who was part of a group of five friends that all achieved A*. His hard work saw him earn an A* grade in chemistry, physics and maths.
He said: "I'm delighted with my results and I'm thankful for all the support from my teachers.
"I can't wait for university and the future ahead of me."
Josh will study maths at the University of Birmingham.
Sandy Paley, head of school, said: "It's was one of our biggest groups to date and we are very pleased to maintain our B grade.
"This year our students sat the final tranche of the new, more rigorous A-level specifications, in subjects such as maths, law and psychology.
"Our students secured strong achievements in all the new courses as part of the suite of 36 A-level and vocational courses offered at our college."
The new way of learning allowed children to choose personalised pathways, which consisted of both A-level and BTEC subjects.
The mix and match of qualifications, which contributed equally towards UCAS points, helped 19-year-old student Michael Baker gain entry to University of Lincoln, where he will study Life Sciences.
Michael is on the autistic spectrum and had to resit year 12. He achieved Distinction* Distinction in applied science and D in A-level economics.
"The teachers were so supportive, especially with the coursework. We got our work back quickly with specific areas we needed to work on."
William Rockley, 19, also studied both BTEC and A-level. He achieved a Distinction* Distinction* in applied science and a B grade in chemistry.
William will study chemistry at Nottingham Trent University.
Joe Marshall earned entry to his dream university after his A*, A and A in maths, chemistry and physics.
"I had a great time at Toot Hill and I'd like to thank all of my teachers for the amazing support," said Joe, who heads to London School of Economics and Political Science to study economics.
Philippa Coates, head of college, said: "I am delighted that our students results reflect the hard work and dedication they have put in over the last two years.
"Congratulations to all of our students but in particular to our boys this year, who have truly excelled in their A-level courses."
