Top bands join festival line-up
Two high-profile bands are the latest acts to be announced for a music concert during the Newark Festival weekend.
Stooshe and Loveable Rogues will perform at the concert on Saturday, August 25, at Riverside Park before the headline act Scouting For Girls.
Stooshe, the British R&B and hip-hop group, rocketed into the charts last month with their second single, the dramatic ballad Black Heart.
They signed to Warner Music Group last year and quickly hit the headlines with the single, Betty Woz Gone.
Their first official single, Love Me, featuring US rapper Travie McCoy, was released in March and entered the charts at number five.
The group, Alexandra Buggs, Karis Anderson and Courtney Rumbold, announced last month they would be supporting American rapper Nicki Minaj on the UK leg of her tour.
The girls will perform at V Festival in August before their appearance in Newark.
Three-piece band Loveable Rogues charmed the Britain’s Got Talent judges when they featured on the programme earlier this year, reaching the final.
They performed all their own material, including the catchy Lovesick.
They have been signed by Simon Cowell’s record label, Syco, in a one-album contract. Their first single is due to be released later this year.
The band is made up of Essex boys Eddie Brett, Sonny Jay and Te Eugene.
The chairman of the environment and leisure committee at Newark Town Council, Mr Dennis Jones, said: “We are really excited about the line-up for the Saturday concert.
“With Stooshe and Loveable Rogues now performing before our headline band of the evening, Scouting For Girls, this concert is looking to be the real highlight of the Newark Festival weekend.”
Mr Jones said there would also be a funfair and refreshments for people to enjoy at the event.
He said tickets could be bought online at www.newark festival.co.uk or in person at the Town Hall.
Newark residents who make a council tax payment to Newark Town Council qualify for discounted tickets, priced at £15.
They are available from Newark Town Hall, or by post from Newark Town Council.
Residents must bring with them or send their council tax bill as well as another proof of address.
