Bingham Wetherspoon pub The Butter Cross scoops platinum plus grading in Loo of the Year Awards 2024

A pub has won acclaim for the quality and standards of its toilets — after inspectors paid a visit.

Bingham’s Wetherspoon Pub, The Butter Cross, has scored highly in the Loo of the Year Awards 2024, earning the second-highest grading available.

After an unannounced visit, inspectors awarded the town centre pub, in the Market Place, a platinum plus grading for its facilities.

Thomas Jobborn, manager at The Butter Cross, said: “We are delighted with the grading.

“Staff at the pub ensure the toilets are in excellent condition at all times and it is great that this has been recognised by the inspectors.”

The awards aim to highlight and improve standards of ‘away from home’ toilet provision across the UK, and the Loo of the Year Awards inspectors made unannounced visits to thousands of toilets at sites across the UK, in order to judge them.

Toilets are graded bronze, silver, gold, platinum, platinum plus or diamond, with unacceptable toilets not graded at all.

Each location’s facilities are judged against numerous criteria — including décor and maintenance, cleanliness, accessibility, hand washing and drying equipment, and overall management.

Loo of the Year Awards 2024 managing director, Becky Wall, said: “The toilets at The Butter Cross have been designed and fitted out to a very high standard and are both clean and well maintained.

“The pub deserves its platinum plus award.”
