Top students at Newark’s Magnus Church of England Academy receive awards at prize-giving
Top academy students have been rewarded for their endeavours at the school’s annual prize-giving.
Students at the Magnus Church of England Academy in Newark were given prizes that recognised the diverse ways people contribute to the school community.
The day celebrated the students who live by the academy’s values — determination, integrity, ambition, humility and compassion.
The school’s headteacher, Anna Martin said: “At Magnus, we believe in choice, that we all have a choice and that we make choices every day.
“We believe we are all free to choose, but we are not free from the consequences of our choices. We also recognise that choice is not easy, that sometimes we have too much choice and it is often hard to know what is the right thing to choose?
“In a world that tells us “if it feels good, just do it” we can be fooled into thinking, the right choice is the easiest, the one that makes us feel the best.
“But is this always the case?
“This year, we have spent time together looking at our core values and how we can use these as a compass to help us make good and wise choices, choices that will bring us into full life, and not just those that will give us a quick fix.”
Various awards were given recognising the academy’s values of determination, integrity, ambition, humility, compassion, 100% attendance, avid reader and top iChoose points.
Special awards such as sportsperson of the year and value prizes were also given.
The awards ceremony started with a Magnus Swing Band performance and the introductory speech by the academy’s headteacher.
