Newark Town Council’s planning committee supports plans for holiday home in Middlebeck




A planning application to create a holiday home in Middlebeck have been supported by town councillors.

Newark Town Council’s planning committee met on Wednesday evening (November 27) where an application to change the use of a residential home to a managed holiday let were discussed by members.

Barbara Corrigan said that she had “reservations” about the application:

“It’s not a terribly big property and it’s out of town, but there’s off-street parking so the neighbours won’t be too bothered, so I’m in two minds,” she said.

Chairman Lisa Geary said: “I was reading about the housing crisis and there’s apparently one million properties in the country that are people’s second houses or holiday homes.

“It’s obviously an issue, but if someone owns it, it’s up to them.”

The benefits of having the home used as a holiday home were discussed as well.

Laurence Goff said: “If this person [the applicant] wants someone to come to our town I have no problem with it.”

The council voted that they would not object to the plans.
