Toy appeal focus at fair
Newark Salvation Army held its annual autumn fair to coincide with the official launch of its Christmas toy appeal.
At the event, at The Salvation Army headquarters on Mead Way, Balderton, there was free coffee and cake to anyone who took a toy along for the appeal. A magician performed and there were stalls.
Major Tim Justice said: “Saturday was about helping the appeal on a bit and ensuring that there is some cheer in households where there is very little money to spend this Christmas.
“The Newark area public are very good at supporting those less fortunate than themselves at this time of year.”
It is hoped more children than ever could benefit from the generosity of the Newark public in this year’s appeal.
Last year 270 children, aged up to 16, received a gift.
The toys are distributed with the help of Newark Home-Start, Sure Start children’s centres, Women’s Aid, Seven Hills homeless hostel and others.
Toys, which have to be new, are collected at The Salvation Army’s HQ and can also be taken to The Salvation Army shop on Brisbane Court, Balderton. Cash can be donated.
On December 2, motorcyclists will do their annual toy run from Southwell to The Salvation Army base.
