Wood & Toys on Chain Lane, Newark is to be let out

A toy shop with more than 25 years of history in a town centre is being put up for let this summer — with the owner hoping to find a new person to continue its legacy.

The owner of Wood & Toys on Chain Lane, Newark, Julie Butler, has announced that the shop will be let from June 1 this year — and she’s hoping someone might take it on as a toy shop.

Julie, who has been the owner of the traditional and educational wooden toys for six years, has now decided that it is time to let go and have ‘more freedom’.

The shop first opened its doors in 1997, when the founder of the shop, who Julie used to work for for four years, returned from a holiday abroad with wooden toy gifts for friends and family.

Due to the popularity of the presents and requests to source similar items, the late owner decided to open the shop in the heart of town.

Julie said: “Even though the shop is a very reasonable place to run cost-wise, the footfall is quite low in town, and I am getting to an age where me and my partner and a bit more freedom to be able to do what we want to do.

“I will be sad to see it go if no one decides to take over the business.

“The shop has been here so long that you see people who used to shop in here when they were children, who now bring their own children.”

The landlord, who lives in Denmark, offers flexible terms and affordable rent for the three-story building.

The ground floor is 195 square meters, the middle floor stock room is 128 square meters, and the top floor has a storage area with a bathroom.

People interested in taking over the building can contact the landlord at gordonindenmark@gmail.com or call +04529823955.

Those who might be interested in taking over the business can go to the shop in person and talk to Julie and get their questions answered.

The shop, which will remain open until the summer, is open Monday to Saturday from 10am to 4pm on Monday and 9.30am to 5pm the rest of the week.

“It would just be nice to see this legacy continue,” said Julie.
