CeX technology recycling store surpassing targets months after opening in Newark

More than £125,000 has been handed out to Newarkers trading in their old electronics and discs.

CeX, on Stodman Street, Newark has surpassed its targets and had a good reception from people in the town, store manager Nathen Trask has revealed.

Since opening in November, the store has given out more than £125,000 in cash and in-store credit for customers' second-hand items — on track for its target for £400,000 in its first year.

Nathen said: "We've hit every single target three months early.

"We are still trying to push to get people to bring in their goods . It's a real mixed bag, some people bring in three consoles at a time and some bring 80 DVDs.

"But I always tell customers, pennies make pounds."

The store is well stocked with consoles, laptops, phones ranging from the latest iPhone to simpler models, games, DVDs, and other electronics and accessories.

Nathen said: "Its mainly phones, games, and we get a lot of laptops [traded in], but essentially everything in the store has been traded in.

"Everyone seems to be really happy that we are here."

For recycling their tech, customers can choose from cash-in-hand or a store voucher of a higher value.

An online drop-and-go system is also in place, where the trade can be arranged online, items dropped into a store of choice and a voucher emailed or money deposited straight into the customers bank account.

"We're also making really good sales," Nathen added.

"I think people are moving away from contract phones, people are coming here to upgrade.

"We had someone come in a trade in an iPhone 12 Pro Max and pay a lot less towards an iPhone 14 Pro Max."
