Newark and Sherwood District Council approve plans to change Travail Employment Group shop front in Appletongate
A town centre shop front from the late 20th Century is to be replaced with a more traditional design.
An application to change the front of Travail Employment Group in Appletongate, Newark, was approved by Newark and Sherwood District Council.
The building, dating from the 19th Century, has a current post-war architecture shop front from the late 20th Century.
Historic England and the Council are providing grant assistance through the High Streets Heritage Action Zones to support the replacement.
The application to change to a traditional designed shop front includes a recessed doorway with timber panelled stall riser, transoms and side pilasters with consoles and fascia with architrave and hand painted signage.
Officers considered the replacement a positive contribution to the listed building and conservation area.
The building fronts Appletongate, opposite its junction with Barnbygate.
The replacement was unanimously approved by the council's planning committee.
