'Tragedy only a matter of time', say transport police

British Transport Police and Network Rail are warning drivers who continue to ignore safety warnings at a Collingham level crossing that it’s only a matter of time before tragedy strikes.

Sergeant Steve Broughton, of British Transport Police based at Lincoln, said: “Incredibly some people are still willing to put their lives on the line by ignoring warning lights and sirens and trying to dash through the crossing when trains are approaching.

“This is hugely irresponsible and dangerous and we will continue to take action against anyone caught doing so.”

The A1133 road, which crosses the Collingham to Newark line, has a speed limit of 50mph but BTP says drivers are continuing to misjudge the stopping distance and risk crossing the line whilst the lights are on red.
