Elton and Orston train station revealed as one of the least-used in England

A small station that lies between two villages is once again one of the least-used in the country.

Elton and Orston, had just 68 entries and exits between April 2019 and March 2020 — and that is less than half last year’s figure of 164.

The figures come in a report published by the Office of Rail and Road.

Elton and Orston Station was the least-used station in the Midlands, and the second-least used nationally, behind Berney Arms in Norfolk, which had 42 entries and exits.

There were six stations across Great Britain with fewer than 100.

Waterloo in London topped the list of the most-used stations for the 16th year running, with 89.6m entries and exits.

That figure was 7.3m lower than the previous year.

A large drop in demand for train travel in the spring accounted for lower numbers at many stations.

Jay Symonds, ORR senior statistical analyst, said: “With numbers staying at historically low levels during 2020, there is no doubt that next year’s figures will look a lot different.”
