Tributes have been paid to a mother who died in a car crash on Sunday.

Mrs Melody Pedley, 43, who lived at Wellow House School with her husband, Mr Ray Pedley, and their daughter Rhian, 9, died when her car, which was travelling north, collided with a lorry travelling in the opposite direction on the A616 at Ompton just before 8am.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the lorry was uninjured.

Mrs Pedley joined the staff at Wellow House School in September 2007 with her husband, who became head of mathematics and boys’ games.

Mr and Mrs Pedley took charge of the boarding house accommodation and looked after the boy boarders initially until the school’s head, Mr Peter Cook, and his wife, moved out of school when they began to look after the girl boarders.

Mr Cook said: “Mrs Pedley had developed her roles within the school over the years and had become a permanent teaching assistant in the prep part of the school offering invaluable assistance to a number of children within the classroom environment and around the school.

“She was a quiet but efficient member of the staff and was always ready to lend a hand or participate in a wide range of roles in order to support the children and staff.

“Mrs Pedley was much loved by the children and her calm reassurance and management of the boarders and her approach to all aspects of school life will be sadly missed, but fondly remembered.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with Ray, Rhian and their relatives at this time and we look forward to supporting their return to the Wellow community when they are ready.”

A school play Mrs Pedley was set to take part in on Monday was cancelled.

Anyone with information about the accident should contact Nottinghamshire Police on 101 quoting incident 234 of December 2.
