Three cricketing girls have been picked to represent their county at under-13 level after impressing during trials.

Evie Fellows, 10, Ashlie Richardson, 12 and Holly Hunt, 12, who all live in Newark, are part of the Nottinghamshire girls development squad.

They attended trials over a number of months before earning their selection.

Matches against other counties await them next season as they look to establish themselves in the county set-up.

Evie and Holly were spotted while playing for Barnby Road Academy last year, while Ashlie was recommended after playing for Coddington and Winthorpe Cricket Club.

Mr Bob Fellows, Evie’s father, said he was proud of his daughter’s achievement.

“She worked very hard for this and what she has accomplished already is amazing,” he said.

“Evie is very sporty and also takes part in netball, cross-country and football.”

'A fantastic achievement'

Mrs June Richardson, Ashlie’s mother, said the county cricket team had supported all three girls.

“Some of the Nottinghamshire women’s team came to see them while they were doing their trials and gave them encouragement,” she said.

“They have been very caring with the way they have treated the girls and Ashlie was so pleased to have been selected.

“Ashlie has been inspired ever since England player Jenny Gunn visited Coddington Primary School when she was younger. That sparked her enthusiasm.”

Mrs Claire Hunt, Holly’s mother, said: “To have three girls from Newark get a place with the county side is a fantastic achievement.

“They have made so many friends through this process and they are looking forward to playing with each other when the season starts.”
